Portraits
The portraits in these rooms
were painted by Bill Ewing from live models and the figures are actual size. All are painted in oil on
canvas or on wood panels, varying in size and complexity. Larger canvases
take up to five two-hour sessions. Patrons are invited to include personal
items or props in their portraits. Most of the backgrounds, props and
garments are painted without the presence of the portrait's subject.
However, Ewing's personal vision demands that the likeness of the portrait be
painted from life. Special commissions can be arranged.
Typically most portraits are
completed at the artist's private studio in daylight hours. The
two-hour posing appointments can be scheduled at the client's convenience and may include
as many as three to five per week, or as few as one per week. Bill Ewing's studio is
thirty miles West of Philadelphia near West Chester, Pennsylvania. Pick up and lodging can
be easily arranged. Bill's preference for live-model painting sessions produces the finest
portrait results. However, when circumstances prevent the subject from posing in person,
photographs can be used. Travel by the artist to all points of the United States and
Europe to paint a commissioned portrait is negotiable.
